It is hard to leave Shanghai without memories that last a lifetime.
Orhan, Casper and Laust – all IBA students – know this well after taking part in this year’s Shanghai Summer Camp.
The camp offered a blend of teaching, cultural activities, company visits and free time.
The programme included language classes at Shanghai Lixin University, visits to a LEGO factory and the Royal Danish Consulate, excursions to Suzhou, Yuyuan Garden and an evening cruise on the Huangpu River. There was also time for karaoke, hotpot, Disneyland and new friendships.
For Orhan Yayla, who is studying Produktionsteknolog, the language was particularly inspiring:
“I was surprised by how well I managed with my Chinese. It was such a positive experience that made me want to learn even more.”
Casper Breiner Hyttel, who studies Entreprenørskab og Design, highlighted the programme’s variety:
“There was a perfect balance between school, culture and leisure. Shanghai Circus was the icing on the cake – an absolutely amazing experience.”
And Laust Kristian Vallentin Larsen, from the same course, emphasised the encounters with locals:
“We got up close with Shanghai. The iconic sights were impressive, but there was also plenty of time to explore the city on our own. The many fun interactions with the locals made the trip so much more than just a study tour.”
For many participants, it was their very first time in China.
The Summer Camp in China is an international programme organised by the IBA’s Confucius Institute. Each year, a group of students is offered a study trip to China to explore the language and culture. They also get the chance to visit Danish companies operating in China.
For many, it is their first visit to the country, and the camp provides a great opportunity to develop language skills while experiencing more of China. The programme is designed to give students a wide range of activities, all while learning the language and engaging with locals.
