Activities and Cultural Life

There’s plenty to do in Kolding, whether you’re into music, shopping, sports, cultural experiences, or nature activities.

At the local venue, Godset, you can enjoy music from various genres. The venue also hosts the annual KOLD Festival, which takes place over two days at the end of January/beginning of February, offering great discounts on entry for students.

All students from the IBA, SDU, UC SYD, and the Design School are also invited to KONTUR, a welcome festival held in September. This event takes place at Godset outdoors.

Kolding features two large padel centres located at opposite ends of the city. Near Kolding Storcenter, you’ll also find Bowl’n’fun, Kolding Go-Kart Centre, and Kolding Trampoline Park. The city’s main swimming facility is Slotssøbadet, which overlooks Koldinghus and Slotssøen.

You can catch films on the big screen at either Nordisk Film Biografer near the shopping centre or Nicolai Bio in the city centre. Nicolai Bio is certified as an art cinema and screens beloved classics alongside new releases, and it hosts a film quiz every month.

The Nicolai cultural complex offers more than just a cinema and its café. You can participate in or organise various cultural events and use the facilities in Building 5 for creative work as an entrepreneur or cultural actor.

If you’re interested in art and culture, Koldinghus and the Trapholt Art Museum are also worth a visit. Both locations offer student discounts on admission. Kolding has three theatres showcasing everything from modern amateur theatre to performance art that dares to challenge genres. Here, you can find theatre sports, lectures, and music right in the city centre.

The city life also includes a plethora of cafés, restaurants, and nightclubs.

If you enjoy sports and community activities, there are plenty of options. You’ll find several fitness centres, a kayak club, a climbing club, beach volleyball, and numerous football, handball, and badminton clubs, among others.

You won’t miss out on outdoor activities either. Enjoy pleasant moments by the water at the 85-meter-long bathing pier at Lyshøj Fjordbad or Rebæk Strand, which is just a short bike ride from IBA. If you’re up for a longer bike ride, you can quickly reach places like Binderup Strand.
