This module introduces core theoretical and practical concepts central to understanding the psychology of sustainability. It establishes an appreciation of the complexities of understanding people and behaviour within organizations. It involves an exploration of organizational and managerial processes and needs for change in the dynamic, changing context of organizations.

Module content

  • Frameworks for understanding the psychology of sustainability.
  • Reviewing and critically evaluating major contemporary research and debates in the field of psychology of sustainability.
  • Evaluating major theories relating to psychology of sustainability, motivation, ethical commitment and engagement at work and how these are put into practice by organizations.
  • Debating and critically evaluating the characteristics of effective sustainable leadership in organizations.
  • Understanding the relationship between identity and motivation as well as resistance to change pertaining to the field of sustainability.
  • Critically evaluating and debating an ethical approach to behavioural change in
    organisations.

- If we want to make the world a better place to live, we can't just keep doing what we've always done. Psychology has many insights into this; it has a long history of working with human behavior.
