Philosophy of Science and Research Methods
This module introduces students to the fundamental principles underpinning academic research and the philosophy of science. It develops an understanding of how knowledge is generated, evaluated, and applied within different disciplines, providing a foundation for conducting rigorous and ethical research.
The module is a part of the online Bachelor’s Degree BA (Hons) International Business Management.
Students are introduced to key research philosophies and paradigms, such as positivism, interpretivism, and pragmatism, and examine how these perspectives influence research design and methodological choices.
The module explores different types of research designs, enabling students to understand how to structure investigations effectively to address specific research questions.
A core component of the module focuses on conducting a literature review. Students learn how to search for, evaluate, and synthesise academic sources to identify gaps in knowledge, build theoretical foundations, and justify research objectives.
