International “AI agents at work” Staff Week (BIP) at the IBA

From Copilot as Assistant to Copilot as Colleague: Agents, Autonomous Agents and Workflows with Generative AI

Case Project: Participants will learn how generative AI is moving from answering questions to carrying out work. Using Microsoft Copilot as the main tool, they will build practical skills in designing agents, automating workflows and using AI responsibly in everyday higher education work.

Target group: Staff from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including administrative personnel, international office staff, and educators. No programming skills required.

Location: International Business Academy, Havneparken 1, 6000 Kolding, Denmark.

Dates: 15-19 March 2027 (arrival on Sunday, 14th of March)

Registration deadline: 15th February 2027. Registration link TBA soon!

Virtual component: End of February/beginning of March 2027.

BIP project number: 2025-1-DK01-KA131-HED-000319990-7

Project Description

Generative AI is changing from a tool you talk to into a tool that works alongside you. Copilot is a good example. It now combines chat, delegated multi-step work and the ability to build solutions, and it is moving towards agents that keep working in the background. This staff week shows what that shift means in practice for people working in higher education.

Over five days, participants will work hands-on with Copilot, from simple agents built in natural language to autonomous agents and automated workflows. The week also covers how to keep control, security and professional judgement in place when AI takes over parts of the work.

Objective and Analytical Output

The aim is to turn new knowledge into practice. Participants should leave with at least one agent or workflow they can use at their own institution, and with a clear view of where AI adds value and where it should not be used.

Approach

  • Real cases: We work with participants’ own tasks, such as student enquiries, mobility administration, meeting follow-up and communication with partners.
  • Hands-on building: Participants build, test and improve their own agents and workflows.
  • Structured models: We use simple frameworks for choosing the right solution and the right level of autonomy.
  • Energy and involvement: The week alternates between short presentations, building sessions, group work and discussion.

The training will include the following main points

  • From chat to agents. Anyone can describe what they want in natural language and turn it into an agent.
  • Delegating work to Copilot. Chat is for quick questions, and Cowork is for tasks you hand over and get back as finished results.
  • Autonomous agents. Agents can react to events and act without waiting for a prompt, within defined triggers, instructions and guardrails. Participants learn to set clear scope, least-privilege access and human approval for sensitive actions.
  • Workflows. Workflows are deterministic, rule-based automations with triggers, AI actions and human-in-the-loop steps. We look at when to use a workflow, when to use an agent, and how to combine them.
  • Agents that use applications. Computer-using agents can work through the user interface of websites and desktop applications, which helps where no integration exists.
  • Building your own solutions. We see how apps, workflows and agents can be combined into one solution, for example an onboarding process.
  • Governance, cost and responsibility. The week covers data protection, transparency, human oversight, and understanding the cost of agents and AI usage.
  • Critical thinking. What happens to professional judgement, responsibility and trust when parts of our work are delegated to machines?
