Each year, the IBA is a destination for many international students who come to attend a two-week summer school.

For nearly two decades, German students have travelled to Kolding for this programme, and the arrangement continues to thrive. Now, the concept is also being trialled with English students from Leeds Beckett University, with which IBA already collaborates on higher education programmes.

“For us, summer schools are another form of internationalisation, where visitors from abroad come to visit us,” explains lecturer Oksana Jørgensen, who is responsible for E-learning at the IBA.

While attending summer school at the IBA, Astitva Mahavir Singh is documenting his stay in Denmark. The Indian influencer expects to release 8–10 episodes about Denmark on his YouTube channel, Student in UK.

At the summer school, topics such as the Danish business and societal structure are part of the curriculum. Before their final exam, the students also visit Danish companies and, of course, Koldinghus.

Indian student Astitva Mahavir Singh – known as Singh – is one of the participants in the IBA’s first English summer school. He is currently studying computer science at Leeds Beckett University.

“You always hear so many good things about the Scandinavian countries, so I jumped at the opportunity to attend summer school in Kolding,” says Singh.

The summer school coincided with the European Football Championship (Euro 2020), and Singh chose to support Denmark when the team played against England. The match was shown on a large screen in Kolding’s town centre.

“I bought a T-shirt, hat, and shorts before the match. When everyone stood up and sang the national anthem before the game, I got real goosebumps,” Singh recalls.

The encounter with Danes and the Danish academic environment has been a positive experience for him. He especially praises the teaching content and the Danish lecturers, who take time for each student.

“Denmark is such a wonderful and clean country to be in. And when people are friendly on top of that, it’s just the cherry on top,” he smiles.
